Blog Post Week #14

  1. What did you do in lab today? In lab this week we focused on the increase of CO2 emissions. As a group, we used a simulator to understand the greenhouse effect. I enjoyed this because this is something I was not aware of prior. This makes me want to make a difference in my community! 2. What was the big question? What will happen if we continue to increase CO2? 3. What did you learn in Thursday's discussion? This week in lab we focused on the impact of carbon dioxide on our planet. Something interesting we discussed was the albedo effect. We learned about melting glaciers and how light is being absorbed causing them to melt. We also learned abut how depending on the color of ones roof, the amount of electricity used in ones house would be different which lead us into our discussion about Ted's solar panels and him not having to pay his electric bill for 20 years.           Textbook Chapter 21? 1. What did you learn? Something i...

Blog Post Week #13

    1. What did you do in lab today? This week in lab we focused on climate and created a document to describe the data we looked at. I will include the link below.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xobpoKD14CHz3nXfx0pzTJ0a43kWie4hn1oCuCbU4zY/edit   2. What was the big question?      What type of data do we have to have that supports that climate change is happening? 3. What did you learn in Thursday's discussion? Throughout our lecture we discussed climate. Something that stood out to me was understanding how hot and cold climates are determined based on where one is located in regards to the equator. Somethings that affect specific regions would be elevation, wind, and air.  Textbook Chapter 21 1. What did you learn?        One thing that I learned is what a greenhouse gas is. A greenhouse gas is a gas that lets sunlight through to reach Earth's surface and trap heat in the atmosphere. They are made of three or more atoms ...

Blog Post Week #12

    1. What did you do in lab today? -  In lab this week we discussed increase and decrease of precipitation between different parts of Iowa. My tables focused on the Drake area. It was very interesting to read these graphs and analyze the data to understand the precipitation in the area. After discussing this information, we looked at how it would be affecting the gold finches.  2. What was the big question? -  What is climate change and how does it affect the Goldfinch? 3. What did you learn in Thursday's discussion? -  We had our exam. Textbook Chapter 21? 1. What did you learn? - When reading chapter 21, I learned about the difference between climate and weather. Climate is over a longer period of time, when weather can be day to day.  2. What was most helpful? - I would say the most helpful part of the chapter was learning about climate change. This was helpful because climate change is affecting where we live and our own lives, and even our futur...

Blog Post Week 11

  1. What did you do in lab today? - This week in lab we talked about rocks and their layers. It was very interesting to use microscopes to see how these rocks looked in a magnified lens. I never thought rocks could be so interesting!  2. What was the big question?   Rocks and their Layers.  3. What did you learn in Thursday's discussion? -  Displacement was the main focus of our discussion on Thursday. It was very interesting to see the different cans and sodas that would float or sink. It was cool to learn that in order to figure out the displacement you would fill the water to the top and then measure how much water has left the bin.  Textbook Chapter 16 1. What did you learn? - The main thing I learned was about the divergent and convergent plates. Converging plates are plates that are colliding together and diverging plates are plates that are separating from each other.  2. What was most helpful? - The most helpful section was also learning about...
