Blog Post Week #2
1. This week I learned about living and non living organisms. I learned that in order to be considered a living things, you must be made of cells, as well as have the ability to grow and reproduce. We also got to get started on germination. We learned about the different parts of beans and how they grow. In order for them to grow, they need water, sunlight and soil. Instead of soil we used cotton balls in the bottom of our cups which works as a replacement.
2. By learning all this new information, I am able to apply it to my future classroom! Something I can do to further my students knowledge about germination would be to do the same experiment we are doing in class now. I would start off by teaching my students about the different parts of the bean, followed by what is needed for it to grow. Once they understand that process we would get started by plants our own miniature plants!
3. I can relate some of this new information with information that I knew prior to this activity. My parents have always been big gardeners who love to plant new plants and foods in our backyard. I plan on using the new information I learned, with the knowledge I already had to help my parents with their garden when I'm home for the summer!
