Blog Post Week #5

 

  1. The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did.
    1. In lab this week we discussed, "How to create a safe and durable playground surface?" In order to model this, we used eggs to represent children and different materials that could be used for playground surfaces. Our group Used mostly straw, rubber pieces, and sand. At first our playground surface was too bouncy. Our egg was bouncing like crazy when it made contact. Then we chose to take away some of the rubber and indent the middle so it had a place to fall. This really helped as our egg was able to survive multiple test runs although the egg had some cracks in it. We found that too much rubber can cause injuries to children! 
    2. A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture.
      1. This week was exam week! I felt pretty confident going into the exam after putting in time to study and received a B+. This is something I am proud of yet also disappointed in. The grade is not terrible but I know I could have done better!

Week #6 Blog Post

 - Something we learned about this week was pollination. It was really cool to check in on our fast plants and use them for self pollination. We noticed that our plants were growing significantly! After checking in, we used dead bees to self pollinate these plants. We also did an activity where we learned about the turtles and their chance of living. That interactive activity was a ton of fun! - Prior to class, I knew about turtles and that they lay their eggs on the beach. I was not aware of how many eggs they lay at once, and I didn't know it was not in the turtles favor that they are going to survive! - I can apply this to my future teaching career by using the same activity we used to learn about turtles. I think it teaches a good lesson of for the students that the world can be very dangerous to animals. It was also important to learn about the impacts humans make and how difficult they make it for the animals.
