Blog Post Week #6

 Questions from Lab

How the phases of the moon occur?

- The phases of the moon are based off the placement of the sun and how much of the moon is covered by it.

What causes the seasons?

- The season are caused by where the earth is and how close it is to the sun as it rotates throughout the year I think?

What causes a Lunar Eclipse?

- I am not sure what a lunar eclipse is, but maybe it is based on a change in temperature?

Questions for Blog

1. What did you do in lab today?

- In lab this week we learned all about the moon, sun, and the earth. Somethings we focused on were, what causes a lunar eclipse, what causes the seasons, and how certain phases of the moon occur. It was really helpful to use the bright light, the globe, and the styrofoam ball as a model because it demonstrated the science behind those questions right infant of our eyes.

2. What was the big question?

- How do the sun, earth, and moon all impact one another?

3. What did you learn in Thursday's discussion?

- In our discussion we continued to focus on those three questions from lab. We talked about what earths orbit looks like and why as well. I learned that we only see the part of the moon that is lit up by the sun. This was super interesting to me and makes complete sense. I will attach a photo of what our instructor drew up for us two help us remember the phases of the moon.

Textbook Chapter 5

1. What did you learn?

- Something from the reading that I learned was the argument about whether the sun is in the middle of our solar system, or the earth is. We know today that the sun is I. the center, yet the Catholic Church back in the day did not think that was true.

2. What was most helpful?

- The videos in the pressbook were the most helpful in helping me understand moon phases.

3. What do you need more information on?

- Something I would like more information on would be how our earth turns. I understand the concept of our orbit, but I would like to spend more time understanding it. I think a video representation would be very helpful.

4. What questions, concerns, and/or comments do you have?

- I do not have questions at the moment!
