Blog Post Week #7

  1. The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did.
    1. The big question for this weeks lab was, What does a scaled down version of the solar system look like? As a group, we were given meter sticks and the measurements of how large the plants/sun were, as well as how far they are from each other. It was our job to create a scale model of our solar system using the materials provided. We used a tape measurer to measure out the scaled down distance from plant to plant and used paper with little dots on them to represent the planets and where they are located in our solar system. After this, it was interesting to learn how big our solar system really is.
  2. A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture.
    1. To start of our lecture, we discussed school of the wild and signed up for slots to participate in it. Next we discussed moon phases. Something that really helped me was the demonstration that you asked Bella to be apart of. That really helped me understand how the moon is rotating and why we have only seen one side of the moon.
  3. Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading:
    1. What did you learn?
      1. I learned that Pluto used to be considered a planet, but then it was changed. It was changed because Pluto does not have a gravitational pull.
    2. What was most helpful?
      1. Something that was helpful was being reminded of the size of the planets. This was helpful because sometimes you forget how big they are compared to each other. We also discussed this in lab when we made the model of a scaled down solar system.
    3. What do you need more information on?
      1. I would like more information on black holes. In movies, black holes are represented in different ways. I would like more facts of what they can do, what they look like, and where they are.
    4. What questions/concerns/comments do you have?
      1. I do not have any questions at this time!
