Blog Post Week #4

 - This week in lab we learned about the 5E's and what that looks like from both a teachers, as well as a students perspective. As groups we got to make charts that showed each of the different E's and what that means for the teacher or student, and then we presented them to the class. I found that from the teachers side, it was more of directing the students and helping them learn about the topic at hands, when the students side was about the different steps of getting through an activity.  - The information regarding the 5E's will be extremely helpful as a future educator. I plan on saving this chart and using it to help guide me threw the first couple of months or even beyond that. It will be helpful because it will guide me in the right direction of engaging my students, encouraging them, exploring with them, explaining to them, elaborate for them, and evaluate them.  - After lab this week I was left with a couple questions. The first being about the 5E model. Althoug...

 1.  This week I learned about life cycles during our lab. We learned about specific living things that go through a complete metamorphosis, and living things that don't go through complete metamorphosis. There are three stages to an incomplete metamorphosis which include, eggs, nymph, and adult, while a complete metamorphosis has four stages which include, eggs, larva, pupa, and adult. We also learned that butterflies have complete metamorphosis.  2. Something I can apply to my future teaching would be the idea of using play-doh to create the metamorphosis stages. I found this to be super helpful as it kept me engaged because playing with play-doh is enjoyable. I want to do this in the future because I believe it brings the fun out in science. Sometimes students can get bored of learning the same way which makes new activities that much more exciting.  3. A remaining question I had about metamorphosis was if it is only insects that go through metamorphosis? Or do ot...

1. This week I learned about living and non living organisms. I learned that in order to be considered a living things, you must be made of cells, as well as have the ability to grow and reproduce. We also got to get started on germination. We learned about the different parts of beans and how they grow. In order for them to grow, they need water, sunlight and soil. Instead of soil we used cotton balls in the bottom of our cups which works as a replacement.  2. By learning all this new information, I am able to apply it to my future classroom! Something I can do to further my students knowledge about germination would be to do the same experiment we are doing in class now. I would start off by teaching my students about the different parts of the bean, followed by what is needed for it to grow. Once they understand that process we would get started by plants our own miniature plants! 3. I can relate some of this new information with information that I knew prior to this activity. M...
